Those who think of the Rideau as a "canal ditch" obviously haven't seen the lovely Rideau lakes, the largest of which is Big Rideau Lake. The chain of lakes in the central portion of the Rideau makes up almost half the length of the Rideau. An interesting statistic is that although the Rideau is 202 kilometres (125 miles) in length, it boasts 1091 kilometres (675 miles) of shoreline and 292 islands.
