Davis Lock

photo by: Ken W. Watson, 1997

It's the end of the season, the trees have turned colour and the picnic tables are stacked against the side of the lockstation house. The hand winches (known as "crabs") which clanked many times each day as lock staff turned the handles, opening and closing the lock sluice valves and gates, now stand silent, waiting for next year's navigation season to begin.
