Don't Mess with Parks Canada

Parks Canada, who operate the Rideau Canal, take their role as stewards of Canadian heritage very seriously. The canal is run much like it was in 1832. For example, the gates of the locks are still opened and closed with the use of hand winches.

Perhaps taking their role a bit too seriously, the photo above shows that the penalty for breaking the law on the Rideau is much the same today as it was in 1832 :-)
